Biography

Lisa Donovan Lukas is a composer, songwriter, pianist/vocalist, and music teacher. She began classical piano lessons at the age of six, and was writing songs (with both music and lyrics) as well as music compositions by the age of eleven. Lisa received her Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from The University of Southern California where she studied with Morten Lauridsen, James Hopkins, Anthony Vazzana, Robert Linn, and William KraftAfter graduation, Ms. Lukas studied orchestration and composition privately for many years with composer/orchestrator and teacher Albert Harris.  She also studied songwriting for musical theatre with Lehman Engel in the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop, and film scoring with David Raksin, and Earle Hagen. 


Lisa has worked as a composer, songwriter, performer, orchestrator, film and television music copyist and music teacher.  Her compositions and songs have been featured in motion pictures and television shows as well as in live performances, recitals and concerts. In addition to her work in film and television, she has written orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have garnered praise and attention. Lisa very much enjoys teaching piano, songwriting, composition, and theory to her music students at Palisades Music Studio.


Ms. Lukas is the recipient of awards and honors including the Music Teachers' Association of California’s prestigious Composer Today Awards for her compositions: Summer Dance, Goodnight Sweet Dreams, Lyric for Piano, A Song From The Garden, Waiting, Rain and A Passing Cloud, as well as composition grants from ASCAP.  Lisa's piano music is distributed exclusively with Piano Pronto


Passionately involved with music all her life, Lisa enjoyed work as a music copyist and proofreader for many years at Universal Studios, Warner Brother's, Sony Pictures, Disney, Eric Stonerook Music and JoAnn Kane Music Service. In addition, she has sung for studio vocal sessions (film songs, cartoons, tv themes, commercials) and also performed as a pianist/vocalist in numerous popular clubs and nightspots in Los Angeles, Switzerland and on cruise ships around the world.   


Ms Lukas is a member of ASCAP - the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, The Professional Musician’s Union – Local 47, SAG-AFTRA, The American Composer’s Forum, MTAC - The Music Teachers' Association of California, MTNA – The Music Teacher’s National Association, and The Dramatists Guild of America, Inc.
